Re: Ivy league style for today (part 2)

Aquascutum raincoat for Derby Day. Rain eased off so coat mainly carried in rucksack. Got a local authority bus up to the course.

Bought cheap ‘Panama’ hat. £10 on The Hill. Who pays thousands for the genuine article? The Man from Del Monte? Otherwise clothes similar to Oaks - long sleeve Lands End blue stripe button down instead of Madras.

Chilly and damp so I put on my beloved old unlined Brooks Brothers fly-fronted raincoat (still with the name of one W.Scott stitched into it) over a Viyella tattersall shirt (with far too stiff a collar - yet I like the pattern) and a flecked Paul Stuart sweater with a shawl collar.  I've seen another like it in navy and am tempted.

Out for a walk in this town where time stood still around the time John Wesley was first having dead cats hurled at him by the local toughs.
I was wearing a pink cashmere v-neck.  No-one even tittered behind their hand.  The young women are too busy taking 'selfies' or staring into screens to notice.

Trying to force the sun to appear today:

Red (pink..) Jakes Chambray BD
Off-white Uniqlo smart-chinos
Alden LHS No 8 Shell (no socks)

My mother took one look at me and said "you look awfully preppy".

I went out very 'Ivied' up in a Madras jacket, pink linen shirt, Levis and Astorflex desert boots.  I may have attracted the odd glance.  Nothing more.

^ Nice.

Prepped to the max today. Lands End seersucker short sleeve. Navy chino shorts. White Sperry CVO’s. Navy ball cap. And for the first ten minutes or so, a yellow Tommy (no logo) cable cotton crew.

Tomorrow will be Lands End (again) madras short sleeve. Ecru chino shorts. Beige Linen Failsworth newsboy. Footwear undecided. Leaning towards wine Weejuns but heat may dictate blue Sperrys.

Re: Ivy league style for today (part 2)

Scottish-made wool cap, colourful Paul Stuart shirt, stone (old) Alan Paine slipover, light brown Farah cords (USA-made), yellow Argyle socks, Dexter loafers.

A bit of a (fancied) Dave Frishberg look.

Now changed into old Johnny Simons Madras shirt, navy PRL chinos and old, English-made espadrilles.

Reading a book on Harlem, 1900-1950.  A not inconsiderable eye-opener.

Blue Brooks OCBD
Navy English-made Brooks slipover
USA-made Farah cords
'Unremarkable' socks (Falke)
Trickers lace-ups

Not cool.  Not cool at all.  But I looked nice.

Now changed into Hunt Club Madras and cotton chinos.
Roof being repaired.
No music until work ceases.

BD Baggies red/blue/white check
Olive chinos
Khaki RL cotton 3/2
Red socks
Wine Weejuns. Modern. Plastic. Cracking. Not impressed at all.

Out go the Alden shell, in comes the crowdfunding.

Re: Ivy league style for today (part 2)

I left the house this morning a reasonably happy individual, dressed in a simple pink Duck Head button-down and freshly-laundered chinos; contemplating my pre-breakfast surprise at Woof's departure but not looking forward to the roofers arriving.
Bill has now risen to £10.000.
Thank God I've just bought one of those Imperial jackets for five quid.
Even if it is darted.

Who's Bill? I hear you ask.
Not the one with the khakis.

Tommy Hilfiger jacket.  USA-made in summerweight wool.  Rather stylish.  Extraordinarily inexpensive.
Long-sleeve navy Peter Geeson polo shirt
501s
Royal blue John Smedley socks
Nicholas Deakin chocolate brown ankle boots

Warm now, hot later, so: Hunt Club Madras, L.L.Bean denim, well-worn Sebago loafers.  Sockless.
Nothing more 'baroque' is needed.

Re: Ivy league style for today (part 2)

Much posting because the roofers are hard at it.  I'll soon be around £12.000 the poorer.  Bang goes a small number of items I'd been eyeing.
Today, a simple cable-knit cotton sweater and faded Levis, together with a thrifted Viyella shirt.
'Cedric-style' Smedley socks, though, in royal blue.

Re: Ivy league style for today (part 2)

After torrential rain last night and a rumble of thunder this morning, I anticipated yet more rain so went out with a raincoat folded over my left arm just like an 'Absolute Beginners'-style Mod (ha!).  I also did the Chris_H autumn look of Madras BD under Shetland crew neck (the flash and hint of colour).  I was warm but not uncomfortably so.  501s, socks from Murray's Toggery (now ten years old and still going strong) and Astorflex desert boots completed the ensemble.
A lady of a certain age smiled at me but failed to offer no-strings intercourse behind the nearest bush, drat her.

So you were going dogging then?

Sadly, no, only to purchase a padded envelope from the post office.
My life is full of excitement.

Re: Ivy league style for today (part 2)

Well: Haggar 'Imperial' two-button grey herringbone (a darted beast but cheaper than a pie and pint in Spoons), pink Makers button-down, blue (not navy, more RAF/sky/dunno) 'Clansman' Shetland crew-neck, L.L.Bean jeans with that dinky little 'Mod' turn-up, rust-coloured Falke socks, Astorflex desert boots.

Very overcast.

Sunshine followed by grey skies: so typical of England.  So: Hunt Club l/s Madras with chunky McLochland cardigan (dig those crazy football buttons, man), 501s and sand coloured Astorflex.  (The roofer: 'Are those loafers?').

Re: Ivy league style for today (part 2)

Once more, dear friends, the Corbin Madras/'sherbert' pink shirt combo.  It would once, in this funny little town, have led to whispering and giggling.  But now the local supermarket has a rainbow flag and welcome to all our LBGT with knobs on friends outside (hoping for a lipstick lesbian sometime around the quarter moon, buying her Prosecco): so nothing.  I'd like to be able to pout, admonish with a wagging forefinger, then flounce (like Woofboxer).  But nothing.
